VocalNation.net – A Web2.0 Paradigm Shift in how the World Discusses Politics

This week the Portland, OR based startup VocalNation.net opens its doors to the world. It seeks to create a paradigm shift in how the world discusses politics and social issues by providing a suite of services to help users cut through the noise.

To see this project through the web2.0 lens, one could say that this system incorporates collaborative filtering and social networking to target the long tail of politics. But to get beyond the buzzwords, Vocal Nation provides an environment that will act as an incubator for innovative ideas and encourage a much-needed intellectual debate.

What Vocal Nation Provides:
§ A democratic rating system, where the community collectively decides what is most worthy of recognition

§ A political leaning tracking system to track the political bias of content, and the leaning of users who participate in the system (patent-pending)

§ The ability to filter and sort content by region, media type (videos, audio, and text postings), category, or leaning.

§ User Profile pages (with personal RSS feeds) where users can promote their postings, their blogs or websites, and their favorite postings

§ Regional Overview pages where users can find postings and events pertaining to their local region

As this community gets populated, it will be providing users real-time feedback on the political trends for every city, state, and country from around the world, and insight into what issues are of importance each local region.

VocalNation.net is currently actively seeking outspoken bloggers and politically minded individuals to start contributing their ideas and opinions to the site.
