Where Jack Met Jill – introducing a thoroughly modern romance
The phenomenal online dating boom of the 21st century has become one of the most popular ways for people of all ages to meet potential partners. According to statistics released by PARSHIP, 60% of single under 34s have used internet dating to meet people, with 54% of those looking for a serious relationship. But the formulaic nature of existing dating sites mean creating a profile that reflects your true personality can be difficult.
www.wherejackmetjill.com is set to change that forever. Taking its lead from social networking sites like myspace and facebook it allows members to sign up and create a completely unique profile page to reflect themselves.
Wherejackmetjill welcomes singletons to ‘the next generation of online dating’
where sexy cartoon Jill and suave Jack navigate visitors around the site and allow them to set up their own ‘datespace’ chosen entirely by themselves.
The idea was created by Peter Fox, 3? from London, who felt that traditional dating sites only allowed you to view profiles primarily on vital statistics and a photograph.
“I noticed that each profile on every existing site is reduced to the photograph as you search, this is not what online dating should be about,” says Peter.“I think you can tell a lot about someone from how they dress and present themselves and that’s what your datespace allows you to do. WJMJ hopes to make online dating closer to a real life experience.
“There are no irrelevant, generic descriptions that say nothing about you. Instead you can post photos, pick colours and create a customisable Datespace as unique as you are. It’s fun, exciting and couldn’t be simpler,” says Peter.Aimed at 18-80 year olds, Wherejackmetjill hopes to attract people of all ages across the UK to come and join in the online dating revolution.
The site allows visitors to design their own background, change its colour or upload a photo image as your back ground. Each individual information panel can be positioned on the page to suit each persons preferences, and you can chop and change colour schemes, photos, information and layout as much as you like. The user can also post comments on their friends pages writing a glowing testimony and encouraging people to get in touch with them.
“There is a definite move towards online dating becoming cool and instead of being something to be ashamed of,” says Peter.
“People are proud to join sites and show off about it. In tests we found WJMJ to be highly addictive, people commented on how easy it is. We want to make meeting people online as fun and normal as meeting people in pubs and bars,” he says.
Designing and creating your page is absolutely free. Messaging begins at 12.99 for 1 month or 24.99 for 4 months. WJMJ is offering the first 500 members to sign up free full membership including messaging.
The company behind Wherejackmetjill.com Tinypete is independently owned by Peter Fox.
Designed and Developed as a joint venture between Catch Digital & Parker Fox. WJMJ was developed using the Ruby on Rails framework. It allowed us to develop what is essentially a powerful web application in a relatively short space of time. Using Web 2.0 style JavaScript libraries, Catch & Parker Fox worked together to add AJAX functionally to the site, making it the first “web 2.0” or “next generation” online dating website in the world.
Peter provided idea of “Jack & Jill” as central characters to the brand Catch Digital created from scratch. Jill, a flirty office manager and Jack a loveable rogue act as your guides and attempt to dispel some of the myths of online dating. The logo and colours soon followed, completing the style.
